Verified by GS1. How it works

Check it with Verified by GS1

Your trading partners need accurate product data. Consumer trust in your products is based on complete and reliable information.

We live in a world where data drives business. E-commerce sites offer consumers millions of products, and billions of barcodes are scanned in physical stores every day. Unfortunately, retailers and e-commerce platforms cannot reliably verify the products they sell using a single source of truth for product information. With Verified by GS1, you can answer the question: "Is this really the product I think it is?"

What does GS1 verify?

Verified by GS1 is a global service that provides the ability to verify the authenticity of every product, starting with a basic license check, such as the allocated Company Prefix (GCP), and ending with full barcode information (GTIN) and core product data attributes from one reliable source - the GS1 Global Registry. Verified by GS1 is used worldwide by electronic platforms, brand owners, and retailers to address issues such as product duplication, incorrect data, and counterfeiting. The service provides the ability to check the unique barcode number assigned to a product — the GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) — along with six attributes, thereby increasing trust between traders, brand owners, and end consumers.

How does Verified by GS1 work?

Brand owners share information about their products through the local GS1 product database (product catalog), and retailers and e-commerce platforms can access this data at any time through the Verified by GS1 service.

What product data is submitted to the Verified by GS1 service?

Verified by GS1 is the product’s identity card, similar to a driver's license or passport. Every product listed in the GS1 Global Registry has a unique barcode number and six core attributes:

1. Global Trade Item Number (GTIN)

2. Brand Name

3. Product Description

4. Product Image URL

5. Global Product Classifier (GPC)

6. Net Content and Unit of Measure

7. Country of sale

How does Verified by GS1 work for Turkmen brand owners?

Brand owners/GS1 Turkmenistan members can submit their product's GTIN and product information to the GS1 Global Registry using the local GS1 Turkmenistan Catalog. Once a company fills in all the required data fields in the GS1 Turkmenistan Catalog, the required product attributes will be automatically transferred to the GS1 Global Registry and become searchable in «Verified by GS1».
